A warm welcome to Ektara, the online video magazine of history, society and culture of India and South Asia. Ektara magazine comes out once every two months. We need your support to keep it running.

1. A Little Box of Lights: Collecting matchbox labels
A short documentary film featuring Gautam Hemmady, a Delhi-based collector of unique matchbox labels that almost tell a visual history of India and the world.

2. In the Shadow of the Caravans: Afghanistan before the Russian Invasion
As Afghanistan continues to go through political upheavals since last few decades, here is an old documentary film featuring the region before Russians invaded it.


3. Tasveer Ghar: The Erwin Neumayer and Christine Schelberger Collection

A selection from the mass-produced images of gods, heroes and others from the collection of Erwin Neumayer and Christine Schelberger, from their base in Vienna in Austria.


4. Tasveer Ghar: Gautam Hemmady's collection of matchbox labels

Gautam's collection of matchbox labels comprises tens of thousands of unique pieces, gathered from various sources, Indian as well as global.

5. Saleem Kidwai: Remembering a historian and teacher
Saleem Kidwai who passed away on 30th August 2021, was a medieval historian, gay rights activist and a translator. Kidwai was a Professor of History at Ramjas College, University of Delhi until 1993 and thereafter an independent scholar.
